Deneb Algedi: A Talisman
It was April of 2022 when the new neighbours in the flat above mine moved in. It started innocently enough. The property above had been sitting empty for three months so I was intrigued to see who these newcomers were that were replacing the lovely family that had been living there previously.
At that point in time I was quite new on my astrological magic journey and had been experimenting with a few planetary talismans here and there but knew that I still had a lot to learn. in my experimentation I hadn’t really been looking for any specific real world effects but my approach was very much to create, observe, record and learn.
As the months went by the situation with the neighbours in the flat above became increasingly more concerning. I became aware of young children living in the property and would very often hear shouting and swearing being directed at the children which would end up with the children crying. I became so concerned that I called the NSPCC and the children were removed from the property shortly after but little did I know that it was just the beginning.
What followed in the next few months I can only describe as being tormented. I was being woken up throughout the night on most nights due to domestic violence and anti-social behaviour coming from the flat upstairs and the things I would hear were very disturbing. I made several calls to the police and was spending much of my free time calling or writing emails to my local housing association, borough council, environmental protection agency and really anyone that would listen or would be capable of helping me only to be passed around and not taken seriously. My quality of life suffered greatly, I was experiencing daily headaches and would often be too tired to carry out even basic tasks like cook a meal or walk my dog.
A year went by with the situation showing no improvement so out of desperation I had the idea to make myself a protection talisman as the authorities were certainly not doing anything to help me. My knowledge at the time was limited to planetary talismans but I had heard about fixed star talismans being more protective which sounded like exactly what I needed! I did not wish the neighbours ill but wanted to protect my home and wanted it to be a space of peace and safety as any home should be.
I set about doing my research and it just so happened that Christopher Warnock had released his book ‘Quindecim Stellis’ of December that year. The book covers the 15 Behenian fixed stars and their correspondences and I would recommend it to anyone wishing to work with the fixed stars.

It was in this book that I found out about Deneb Algedi. Unique, in that it presided over a lot of different topics, unlike any of the other fixed stars. It was said to bring protection and success to the home as well as bring wealth and success in lawsuits. With Saturn and Mercury being prominent in my chart this felt like the right fixed star to work with for me personally and seemed to fit with what I was looking for (protection of my home).

This star is greatly unfortunate when it is in conjunction with the Sun; if it be beheld thereby with a square or opposition at the time of nativity, it indicateth corruption and harm. In magic, however, this star is counted according to the misfortune of its lords, Saturn and Mercury, so long as they should behold it while they are retrograde or combust; for at that time, understand thou, its significations are destroyed.”

With this in mind I chose my election but it did involve a two month wait for Saturn and Mercury to be retrograde at the same time. At the elected time I made my offerings and drew the image of Deneb Algedi as well as the sigil on a piece of paper and hoped for the best.

I waited patiently to see what the effects of the talisman would be but I have to say that I was blown away by the result! Within a month the neighbours upstairs had been rehomed. I almost couldn’t believe my eyes when I looked out of the window of my flat and saw them packing things into a van and leaving. It felt too good to be true after feeling so hopeless and trapped with no end in sight, when I couldn’t even see any light at the end of the tunnel.
I was over the moon and am deeply grateful to Deneb Algedi, whose energy I will now carry close to me for the rest of my life. He saved me in a time of great turmoil and I now have a profund respect and awe for him.
